Expertise

In the forging technology, inserts and dies are critical for the quality of the parts we produce. At SN, we manufacture them 100% in our tooling shop. Hot forging conditions on our hammers create a very high level of constraints on dies !

This is the reason why, after each production, we systematically expertise the tooling and we decide if they are fit for a next batch or if they need being repaired or renewed. The data related to their life cycle (quantity forged and residual potential quantity) is registered daily in our ERP.

Your benefit :

This expertise is done by both our forging and tooling departments and is a key factor for the continuous quality of your products. When a tooling needs to be renewed, we may inform our customer, just in case a modification was anticipated by its technical department.

Your orders are totally secured as tooling may be set up on different hammers. We also have several security tooling for a few strategic components !

Our policy is to be always operational for the manufacture of your products : tooling management is controlled and ensured 100% by SN and has no impact on our customers purchase orders.

Maintenance : a strategical department

A major concern at SN is to always have machines fit for the production in order to be able to deliver our customers on time and to secure our means of production. Therefore we put a lot of efforts into our maintenance plan.

Where maintaining machining centers is quite easy, the forging section requires very complex and diversified actions. Actually a forging line is composed of several pieces of equipment submitted to tough conditions : a heating station, a drop forging hammer, a trimming press, a specific conveyor for the controlled cooling or a heat treatment bath (direct hardening) and more if you add conveyors and robotics !

First level maintenance tasks are done by the machine operators, as per a fixed procedure and under strict respect of the 5S rules.

A team of six persons is in charge of the curative, preventive and predictive work. External workforce is also required .The maintenance schedule is integrated into the global production schedule. Major and heavy work is done during our summer break.

2 maintenance team members and a piston ready for use

Thanks to a maintenance software, our people have access to the technical information of our machines and to our database. They are also connected to a community of maintenance teams within our activity. We always have critical spare parts on stock which represents a total of 550 000 €

A set of tooling is necessary to produce a forging : dies, trimming and punching tools are designed and manufactured in our tooling shop.

Let’s focus on the dies (upper and lower) : the dies are giving the shape to the part, thanks to a cavity (or multiple cavities) and areas for preforming and final forming

We forge with forging hammers : complex shapes are very common and, thanks to dies with multiple cavities, we can reach a lower production cost. Look at the picture below : the dies have 4 cavities, so 4 parts are forged together at the same time !

How do we proceed ?

Quality tooling for quality forgings : this is why the tooling maintenance is so critical !

A specific care must be taken from the manufacture to the storage : we systematically expertise the tooling just after the production.

In case the tooling must be repaired or remanufactured, this will be immediately planned No impact on costs and lead time for the customer : this is our way of working !

We also have several sets of tooling in stock for strategic products.

Our new forging line is on track !

We are now setting up a new logistics building and we are about to start the pit works. The forging hammer will be installed during our summer holidays. The global budget of 2.5 million of euros is respected. So, we are confident for a start of production in Q4/2019 !

Work and talk : this is our customer day !

This year again, we organize our customer day on June, 13. The last editions were very successfull : attendees appreciated a nice day with fruitful exchanges and visits. We usually start with a presentation of our company and our projects ; then the group will visit our factory and the last but not least, we finish with a nice lunch, around local specialities! If you are interested please contact us…

Agritechnica, 10-16 november 2019

The biggest exhibition for agricultural machines : a lot of our customers are coming there : we invite you to have a look at the range of our possibilities on our stand ; don’t hesitate to tell us which day you are coming. If your company is also exhibiting, we can indeed arrange a meeting on your stand !
